4 week introduction to sewing (Skills Builder)

Want to learn to sew but don’t know your seam ripper from your stay tape? Join us on our 4 week introduction to sewing where you will learn to make a simple tote with a zip closure and a buttoned pocket.

On this skills based course we will walk you through the basics of sewing to give you the confidence and skills to sew independently.

You will learn:

• Week 1: Different types of fabric and what they can be used for. How to cut your fabric using some simple measurements
• Week 2: Different ways to finish seams and how to make bag handles and a pocket
• Week 3: How to insert a zip and we will show you different types of zips and how they are applied.
• Week 4: Button holes – How to make a button hole on the sewing machine and how to finish your bag

What’s included in your course:

• Use of a sewing machine
• Tutoring
• Free tote bag pattern

You will need to purchase 0.6m of fabric and a zip but we have a great stock of both you can choose from on the day.

Please note this is a four week course that runs for for consecutive weeks. Mon 4th, 11, 18. 25th July (11am – 1pm, each week).

Your tutor for this course will be Debbie Wainhouse.

Debbie has over 25 years sewing experience and Graduated from London College of Fashion with a degree in Womenswear Tailoring. She currently teaches sewing and makes bike bags for local cyclists along side sewing for herself and her family!
